Personal work

Both of these design solutions were for my typography project, which I believe I proved some diversity as a designer. Both pieces were very different, one being illustrative and the other being model and photography based. My quotes were first spoken by Morrissey and Oscar Wilde repectively. I tried to have some link between the two quotations and that is found in the fact that Morrissey was often said to emulate Wilde's style in the early part of his career, both lyrically and in person.
High Tides festival poster

This is the final outcome from our nature inspired design brief, which simultaneously looked at the design development cycle. The background image was drawn in oil pastel and then partially modified on photoshop, and the logo was constructed in Illustrator. I tried to combine both traditional and digital methods for a poster advertising a new surf and music festival. I wanted a balanced slick style to show the more modern aspect of this new festival, I then took it to surfers and skaters in scarborough to see if this kind of thing would interest them and every one of them said that it would.

This is my final piece for a video game design project as part of our visual studies lessons.

This is a poster for the same video game design brief, it was not required but I did it anyway for fun.

This is the banner I made for my blog, but unfortunately it was too big to fit on the page so I had to crop it down. The logo made on Illustrator incorporates the 'J' and 'A' of my initials into one symbol.

This is a logo I made for a gig promotions company that has recently started out in the area.
The company's called 'Pete Deet Promotions' and is named after the indie icon Pete Doherty (Pete Deet is his nickname). Pete Doherty is well known for his Trilby hat and that is the basis of this logo, with the hat sitting on top of tall bold serif type.

I made the poster on the left for a gig my band was playing (Okapi). The promotion business that asked me to make it have since contacted me for more posters. I originally only made it to advertise my own band's first gig back from a lengthy hiatus but Deafbox Promotions wanted to use it as the official poster.
The poster on the right was the second creation I made for Deafbox Promotions. It was used to promote the Ripley Battle of the Bands which my band competed in. I based the design on mixing Russian wartime with the music element to portray a literal 'battle' between the bands. This was once again put up in the surrounding area's to advertise all the gigs.

I made the poster on the left for the Ripley Music Festival raffle held in my town. I approached the committee putting the festival together to see if they wanted me to design a poster for them and this is what I came up with. It was used and put up all around the surrounding area and they have already said that I can design all of thier posters for next years festival.
I created the poster on the right for a gig in the local area. I submitted it to a competition to win free entry to the gig the poster was advertising. I won.

These two posters were made in my free time as I wanted to show two opposed views by making as little change as possible. I believe I succeeded as each poster uses exactly the same resources.
This an EP cover I designed for local hardcore band 'Becoming Apollo'.

This is an album cover I designed for local Metal band 'The Waves Above us'.

This is an EP cover I designed for local Metal band 'A World Defined'.

This is a double page spread for my magazine project. The image on the left page is of the Parkway Drive album cover, and the right hand page was constructed by myself. To give a similar effect to the opposite page without it being a direct copy.

This is my final piece in my photomontage project for Jamie. It was made on photoshop and is an album cover for a compilation of songs from bands on the label 'Roadrunner records'. This is my first experience of using photoshop and I would like to think I have improved greatly from this first venture.
